Signs of Panic Attacks
Panic attacks arrive without pre-warning and the person usually replies with a state of flight or fight. Some of the most common signs of panic attacks include the following:
- A sense of extreme panic and anxiety, often including a fear of imminent death
- Thumping heart and severe chest pains
- Nausea and dizziness
- Sweating, chills, or overheating
- Feeling unstable
- Restrictive breathing
- A yearning to escape
Panic Attack Triggers
Some of the triggers of panic attacks can be avoided with careful monitoring. This can provide a sense of greater freedom for those with panic disorder. Knowing the triggers of your panic attacks can help you predict when they will occur.
Trigger 1: Consuming Coffee
Drinking coffee has the ability to increase your heart rate and make you more attentive. As the heart rate increases it has the potential to trigger a panic attack due to the reaction of a thumbing heart. Too much caffeine can lead to a person becoming unsteady, another symptom of panic attacks.
Trigger 2: Numerous Medications
It’s smart for people who suffer from panic disorder to shy away from medications that could cause a trigger for a panic attack. An example might be medication that could cause a rise in body temperature which inturn causes the heart rate to increase. Subsequently, the body may believe this to be a panic attack.
Trigger 3: Too Much Exercise
When you over exercise, your heart rate increase, you perspire and you take deeper breaths. This is another aspect that can increase the chances of experiencing a panic attack.
Trigger 4: Tension
Because it causes your body to produce the hormones that trigger a fight or flight response, stress can be a major trigger of panic attacks. To avoid triggering a full-blown attack, try taking deep breaths and maintaining as low a level of stress as is possible.
Trigger 5: Being Out of Your Comfort Zone
Any form of change big or small creates tension within oneself. Changing careers, the loss of a family member or moving interstate all contribute to how stable you are both physically and mentally. Take time out for you to adapt to these changes in a positive way.
